What is OBD-Boss?

Will it work with my car?

Almost certainly, if it is a petrol or diesel car from 2008 onwards: they have the OBD-II port OBD-Boss plugs into. Factory CNG cars work too. The app has a checker, so you can confirm your exact model before you buy.

Does it work with motorcycles and scooters?

Yes, with fuel-injected bikes and scooters (BS4 and later). Two-wheelers use a small harness made for each brand, which you choose at checkout.

Trips, location, fault codes and 12 V battery health work on most EVs and hybrids. How much battery-pack data is available depends on the brand.

How do I install it?

Find the OBD-II port, usually under the dashboard near the steering column, and plug OBD-Boss in. Then scan the QR on the box with the app. It takes about two minutes and no tools.

Do I need a mechanic?

Not for cars and bikes. HD is installed by trained partners because it connects to the vehicle's wiring, panic buttons and antennas.

Use the 30 cm extension in the box so the dongle sits where it does not touch your knee or the pedals. It also lets you tuck it out of sight.

OBD-Boss plugs into the standard diagnostic port without cutting wires or changing the vehicle's software; workshops use the same port. If you are unsure, check your dealer's policy.

No. Parked, it draws about 0.3 mA including the find-my beacon, less than the battery loses on its own. A month parked costs about 0.2 Ah of a typical 35 Ah battery.

OBD-Boss watches the battery voltage and drops into its deepest sleep if it falls too far, so you can always start the vehicle.

Do I need to keep my phone connected?

No. The dongle records every trip on its own, about 80 hours of driving at one reading a second (40 on Lite), and syncs the next time your phone connects or over home WiFi.

Yes. The live screen shows an animated speedometer and tachometer, fuel and battery, updated up to ten times a second. It uses roughly 4 to 6% of phone battery an hour with the screen on.

OBD-Boss reads data; it does not change your vehicle's software. Pairing is encrypted, firmware updates are signed, and service routines only run from Garage Pro with the vehicle stopped and your confirmation.

No. The beacon's identity changes every 15 minutes, and finders encrypt what they report so only your app can read it.

Yes. The OBD-II port stays powered, so OBD-Boss keeps a Bluetooth beacon running while parked and remembers where you left the vehicle (with GPS on OBD-Boss and Pro).

Nearby phones with the app and OBD-Boss vehicles driving past pick up its long-range beacon and report where they saw it. Pro sends its live location over 4G from anywhere and alerts you if it is unplugged or towed.

The beacon stops, because cars and bikes power it from the port. Pro sends an unplugged alert with the last location first, and fitting it hidden on the extension helps. A backup battery for Pro is available on request, and HD has one built in.

Will it work with Google's Find Hub?

It is planned as an option you switch on per vehicle: after Google certification, any Android phone nearby can report it, with or without our app. It is off by default, because Google's anti-stalking rules alert phones travelling with an unknown tracker, including a family member or driver using the vehicle. Theft recovery on Pro and HD uses their own 4G.

They share their 4G connection as a password-protected hotspot for your own devices at about 1 Mbps, which is enough for maps, messages, UPI, music, payment terminals and fleet apps, using data top-ups from ₹99. A full-speed version (about 3–8 Mbps, enough for video) is an add-on on request.

Is the hotspot open to passengers?

The standard hotspot is for the owner's devices, like a phone hotspot. Public passenger WiFi in cabs and buses needs OTP login and records under DoT rules; ask us if you need it for a fleet.

No. It uses long-range Bluetooth and a relay between OBD-Boss vehicles, and Pro has 4G, which together cover far more of India than LoRa networks do today.
